About Us

Sunderland Training and Education Farm

Is a non profit making organisation. It has 28 acres of land. It was commissioned by Jeanette Chapman in March 2007 who saw an oppurtunity to create a community resource centre for locals. It is led by an independent management of 14 members, this consists of local residents, communmity development workers, a farmer, a mental health worker and a counsilling advisor. The farm is open to all ages for educational visits, traning and work expericnce oppurtunites.

The farms aims are:

• Empower the citizens of Sunderland to enable them to improve thier quality of life.

• Improve the educational, social, welfare and leisure oppurtunites of children and adults in the area.

• Work in partnership with other agenices and citzens of Sunderland.

STEF is not only provides training it is also an action packed educational experience for vistors and volunteers of all ages.

 

What we do?
Sunderland Training and Education Farm is the only educational farm in Sunderland. It is a place for the local community to come along and visit our animals and join in on our many activities that we do. Some of our animals include; • Cattle Shed - Feed baby calves• Goat Shed - See the milking palour and try making icecream• Sheep Pen - Stroke the baby lambs• Hatchery - Hold the baby chicks and ducklings• Poultry House - Collect the eggs, see them sorted and packed• Piggery - See the baby piglets and scratch their mothers backs• Duck Pond - Feed the many breeds of ducks/ ducklings• Garden Area - Plant some seeds, pick some vegetables• Wildlife Area - Catch the bugs and can you identify them?• Wildlife Pond - How many Items can you see?• Dene - Explore at leisure, bird watch, etc.• Small Animal House - Play with all the animals• Workhouse - Try your skills at woodwork and crafts• Beehives - Learn all about bees• Recycling Plant• Help Build More and More Areas• Pony / cart rides• Fruit maze (Seasonal) Training and Education STEF is not just a place where people can come and visit our animals it is also a training centre for the local community who want to do training courses and apprenticehsips. It works in partnership with Springboard and Sunderland college to fufill these goals. Schools and Connexions can refer young people who may not be settling in school and are wanting to do alternative curriculum. Other Activities Some of the other activites that we run are:• Healthy Planting Project sponsered by Teaching Primary Care
Trust (TPCT) and enjoy funfilled coffee/ tea planting sessions...• Environmental Group and achieve your John Muir Award 
planting hedges, Identifying species and restoring the Dene• Bike Club - Learn basic repairs and go for bike rides• Volunteering and gaining valuable work experience in various areas, For 
example, Small construction, Animal care, Childcare, Gardening, and Administration, etc
